Activity 9
Minesweeping
On each persons journey to achieve whatever goals they have set for themselves, there are obstacles. Some of these are mines, hidden beneath the surface, not immediately obvious and, to the careless adventurer, lethal. Some may be known limitations, that can be taken into account from Day 1, with prepared solutions. Some weaknesses may be discovered along the way, as you encounter new situations you may realize that there are some obstacles you need to work around. And you may also encounter external roadblocks, put in front of you by people or organizations, that must be circumvented before you can proceed.
It is pointless to wish these away. Usually it does no good and distracts from dealing with them proactively. Some may argue that overcoming obstacles is the essence of the challenge; without any hardship their is no accomplishment.
To successfully navigate these threats to your objective, it is always key to pay attention and identify which obstacle is in front of you. Once you have pinpointed its nature, you are that much closer to finding a solution.
Many people who have reached the pinnacle of their profession credit their success with facing and overcoming the obstacles they encountered on the way.
1. Choose 3 people who inspire you:
-
What obstacles did they have to overcome on their path?
-
Were they internal or external obstacles?
-
How did they eventually overcome those obstacles?

2. Based on what you have learned about yourself, can you predict what might be some of the internal obstacles that may stand in the way of you achieving your goals?
Which external landmines should you prepare for? How can you circumvent any unexpected roadblocks that you may encounter?
